A QR code for real estate signs that shows the home, not a black box

A QR code for real estate signs lets people walking past a property open the listing, photos and viewing times right away, even when the office is closed. With QRPetal the code can be made from a photo of the home itself, so the sign is instantly recognisable.

Why agents like editable codes

Signs and window cards are reused. The same board goes from one property to the next, and listings move from “for sale” to “under offer” to “sold”. An editable code lets you point the printed sign at a new listing page without printing a new sign. Scan counts also tell you how much interest a sign is getting, which is useful when talking to sellers.

Codes never expire: if you stop your plan, the code keeps sending people to the last page you chose.

Reading distance is everything

A yard sign is read from the pavement or even from a car window, not from 30 cm away. A common rule of thumb is that a QR code can be scanned from about ten times its width:

Choosing the photo

• The front of the house or a strong interior shot, not a wide street scene.
• High contrast between sky and roof, or walls and windows, helps.
• Keep important details away from three corners of the code: that is where the square position markers sit.

Outdoor printing tips

• Use matte, weatherproof material. Reflective vinyl and glossy laminate can make scanning hard in sunlight.
• Keep the white border around the code clear of logos and frames.
• Put a short call to action next to the code: “Scan for photos and viewing times”.
• Test the finished sign outside, in daylight, from the pavement.
